DD Sports to Broadcast Highlights of India’s Matches from 2000s

Highlights of India’s Matches: Amid the lockdown, there are no matches for fans to witness as all major sporting events have either been called off or postponed.

However, there is good news for Cricket lovers as the  BCCI on Monday announced that DD Sports, the state-owned sports broadcasting channel, will broadcast the highlights of India’s cricket matches from the early 2000s from April 7.

“The 2000s cricket rewind! The BCCI and Government of India bring you cricket highlights from the past. Sit back and enjoy the action on @ddsportschannel. #StayHomeStaySafe” tweeted BCCI.

The viewers will be able to view the matches which include the tri-series between India, Australia and New Zealand in 2003, South Africa’s tour to India in 2000, Australia’s tour of India in 2001 (including the famous Kolkata Test where VVS Laxman and Rahul Dravid batted a whole day to lead India to a stunning victory), West Indies’ tour of India in 2002 and Sri Lanka’s tour of India in 2005.

Recently, Star Sports also announced that they will be showing India vs Pakistan encounters amid the 21-day lockdown. Star Sports had announced that from April 4 to April 10, the channel will be dishing out World Cup matches played between the two rivals since 1992.

With no live cricket or sporting event in place, channels are doing their best to serve engaging content for their fans. The whole cricket fraternity was awaiting IPL 2020 to kick off from 29th March. However, due to the outbreak of COVID-19 across the globe, the tournament was pushed further to 15th April. But considering the current scenario, the possibility of the tournament looks slim and several reports have also suggested that the 2020 edition of the cash-rich league will be called off.

Meanwhile, there is lockdown across the nation, the Novel-coronavirus continues to affect more and more people across the world. More than 1.2 million people have so far tested positive for COVID-19 globally, while 65,000 people have lost their lives. Over 250,000 patients are reported to have recovered.
