Market LIVE: Domestic equity benchmarks Sensex, Nifty have continued their rally as both indices made gains during the early hours of trade on Wednesday. On Tuesday when the stocks jumped to recover losses made on the Budget day. At 10:15 AM, Sensex was trading at 40,981.13, up 192 points or 0.47 per cent while Nifty 50 hovered above the 12,000 mark, gaining 55 points or 0.46 per cent at 12,036. The biggest gainer on the Sensex pack was Mahindra & Mahindra with 2.14 per cent growth while ITC was languishing at the bottom with 1.09 per cent loss. 21stocks on the 30-shares index finished the day trading in green.
Asian stock markets extended gains on Wednesday. Hang Seng climbed 0.52 per cent in early trade while Japan’s Nikkei stock index rose 0.99%. In the US the S&P 500 rose 1.5% on Tuesday and Nasdaq rose to a record high gaining 2.10 per cent.
Finance minister Nirmala Sitharaman will address the central board of the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) on February 15 in a crucial meeting that comes after the government, in the Budget for FY21, invoked an escape clause in the FRBM law to let the fiscal deficit breach the targets by as much as 50 basis points each for this year and the next.
